I have had it! I really have.

My phone rings three and four times a day with call from Presidential Candidates. I don’t know who I’m voting for, I just know we don’t really have a good choice from any of them.

I have a real gripe here since I have all our cell phones listed with the National Do Not Call list. I don’t think these calls should be coming in. I sent an e-mail to the National Do Not Call List people, here is what I said:

Hi,

    My name is Jack Servello, I live in Altoona PA. I have been getting calls from Presidential Cadidates three and four each day. Most of these calls are pre recorded messages that take 10 to 15 seconds to start playing, during which I have no idea who or what is calling.

    I have my cell phone listed on the National Do Not Call List and wonder if these calls should be coming in. Is there a way to have these calls stopped before the next election?

I just don’t have the time to mess around with this nonsense.

This is what we have to look forward to in the big election when we vote for the President. More phone calls, more commercials more slanderous words about the other candidate.

ENOUGH ALREADY!

Lets do four years without a president! Or better yet, how about this:

They should post a sign up sheet at road side rest stops and have it broken down by days of the year, you sign up for a day to be President!

365 presidents a year, no chance for any long term screw ups, no problem with running for office, just the country run by the people, for the people and of the people.

Yeah let’s try that!

I have been hearing a lot lately about this recession we are in. I don’t claim to know what a recession is, but it sounds bad!

Now I am hearing about another depression! That I know is bad.  My question is why are we still going about our daily business, buying gasoline for our cars and spending money frugally on things we really don’t need?

Thanks to Pres Bush, some of us are getting an Economic Stimulus Check! I know we are getting $1200.00. We won’t get any for our son who is 17. Guess what we are doing with that money! GASOLINE!

Saving it for gas, there was a time if I knew I was getting a large sum of money like that I would have my eye on some piece of electronic equipment. But not today, I am saving my money to buy gas! Gotta get the car from point A to point B!

Just too many things to do. Some of which I get paid for and most of which I do not! I still have to get there.

I just pray that our country soon realizes that this cannot go on forever and people need to start bugging our reps in Washington DC!

Tell them we don’t want to pay so much for gas, it makes everything else go up in price. Then we can’t afford to buy those things. We have to start choosing what we will spend money on and what will have to wait

It is interesting that our President owns an oil company. Now he is giving everyone money to spend on whatever they want to spend it on.

AND WE ARE SAVING OURS FOR GAS!

There is a commercial running right now for Nextel Wireless.  It shows what appears to be a Government House Of Representatives.  It is filled with Fire Fighters! The Speaker of the House is a Fire Chief and he uses his cell phone to talk to the other Firefighters. This is the whole dialog

Chief: Ok firefighters settle down, How ’bout the budget

Firefighters; BALANCE IT!

Chief: And the taxes

Firefighters: ONE PAGE OR LESS

Chief: Anyone want better roads?

Firefighters: WE DO!

Chief: All in favor?

Firefighters: AYE

Chief: Opposed? (Silence) (Gavel) DONE!

Chief: (Rifling through pile of paper) Lot of paper to tell us we need clean water. Need clean water guys?

Firefighters: Aye!

Chief: This is the easiest job I’ve ever had. We’re outta here! (Gavel)

Announcer:Get more done now communicate with groups in less than a second with Nextell direct connect. 

This is the whole commercial! But it is more than a commercial for a cell phone company! This should be making waves all through Washington DC! The premise couldn’t be more appropriate!

To show Firefighters doing what our congressmen are supposed to be doing and doing it faster and less complicated is more of a political statement than a promo for cell phone service! Our governing leaders should be paying close attention to this commercial and others like it. It implies to me that America is becoming tired of the Status Quo in Washington!

We learned on September 11, 2001 just how brave and important our Firefighters and Police officers are. We also came to appreciate the fact that when we are running out of a burning building, they are running in.

I love this commercial, I found it on You Tube so I can watch it any time I want. It has me thinking that our leaders are taking way too long to get simple things done, I have blogged about some of the things I would like to see in our country, but all kidding aside, we really need to start bugging our congressmen and senators. We need to start sending letters, and e-mails and make phone calls just to ask them to do thier jobs! Get this country back on a good track. We have a great country, I love being an American. I am not knocking our country, I just think we all have a say in how it should be run, and we don’t take advantage of it enough.

AHH SPRING! Brings out the best in all of us.  I was privileged to be able to attend a talent show this evening at Altoona Area High School. My son was one of the contestants. It consisted mostly of girl dance groups, there was one act that was nice, it was a magician who did somewhat of a dance with magic, it was different.  Then there were the vocalists, two girls sang to tracks. There were instrumentalists and vocalist duos, one of which was a brother, sister act.My son played drum set along with four of his friends from the band. They did a song called “What Up”. There were marimbas, vibraphone and bells. It was cool, and they won first place! Out of fifteen acts.One of the soloists was a young man who sang “Imagine” and sang it wonderfully! I have to give these kids credit; they really put a lot of work into what they did.  It takes a lot of work to get these dance routines right. It shows when the kids do the dance and it works really nicelyOne young lady did a ballet from Don Quixote. It isn’t one of my favorite dance styles, but this girl was on her toes most of the time, and I think that is amazing!The evening was nice; it was a nice way to end an otherwise bothersome day. I am trying to work on songs for a friend of mine who is a Doctor. He sings just for fun and doesn’t make any money at singing, but he records a lot of songs. I am making a track of one song called “Mustafa”. I think the song is sung in an India dialect, not really sure, but I know one thing, I CAN’T SING IT! But I will get the song done!I had the golden opportunity to talk to another dear friend of mine tonight, Mr. Glass! He was on the road, and it was nice to chat with him while he drove. He thought it was cool that we could carry on a conversation while he was going through a very long tunnel! Blue Mountain, PA!But I will let him blog about the whole tunnel/cell phone/cool thing.I guess E R Is new tonight so I am going to go sit and watch it with my wife, since her laptop computer died today, she won’t have anything else to do tonight.  This isn’t good though, she has four more weeks of school and she graduates! In Calgary, Alberta, Canada, hence the Second City TV referenced in the title, two men went on a Gopher killing spree.

“I got to get into this dude’s pelt and crawl around for a few days. Who’s the gopher’s ally? His friends? The harmless squirrel and the friendly rabbit?” — Carl Spackler, Caddyshack

The two men went into a field in an attempt to kill gophers using a device called the Rodenator. It appears that gophers can be a real menace to crops, golf courses and maybe even society.

“In the immortal words of Jean Paul Sartre, ‘Au revoir, gopher’ “– Carl Spackler, Caddyshack.

Despite a ban on fires in the tinder-dry area of Springbank, the Rodenator pumps a mixture of propane and oxygen into rodent holes. After the mixture is pumped in, you simply ignite the mixture. According to the manufacture’s website, the resulting blast creates a shockwave that kills the rodent and collapses the tunnel system.

“License to kill gophers by the government of the United Nations. Man, free to kill gophers at will. To kill, you must know your enemy, and in this case my enemy is a varmint. And a varmint will never quit - ever. They’re like the Viet Cong - Varmint Cong. So you have to fall back on superior intelligence and superior firepower. And that’s all she wrote. “– Carl Spackler, Caddyshack

The resulting effect a Flash Fire 160+ acres burned, surrounding properties burned and a number of outbuildings burned. But they managed to take out about eight gophers. Charges against the one of the two men are being considered.

The comment from the municipal district of Rocky View’s fire department, Captain Joe Garssi, “The way I look at it, it’s ‘humans eight, gophers one’.”

Now How Caddyshack is THAT?!?! Good job Garssi.
